Lakeview

Lakeview is a large and diverse neighborhood located on the North Side of Chicago. The area is known for its beautiful tree-lined streets, historic architecture, and proximity to Lake Michigan. Wrigleyville, located near the iconic Wrigley Field, is a bustling entertainment district with a mix of historic and new construction properties. Boystown, located east of Wrigleyville, is known for its LGBTQ-friendly community and vibrant nightlife. Lakeview also features several parks, including the expansive Lincoln Park, which spans the entire eastern boundary of the neighborhood and offers numerous recreational opportunities. Located four miles north of the Loop, Lakeview, Chicago can be found south of Uptown, north of Lincoln Park, and west of North Center.

Lakeview, Chicago Neighborhood History

Lakeview was originally settled in the mid-1800s by European immigrants, and by the turn of the century, the area had become a popular destination for Chicagoans looking to escape the congestion of the city’s downtown. In the early 1900s, the neighborhood experienced a surge of growth, with many of the elegant mansions and historic buildings that still exist today being constructed during this time. In the 1920s, the neighborhood’s population boomed, and new residential developments and commercial properties were built to accommodate the influx of new residents.

In the 1970s, Lakeview underwent a period of revitalization, as artists and young professionals began moving into the area. The neighborhood’s proximity to downtown Chicago and beautiful lakefront attracted new residents, who renovated many of the historic homes and buildings in the area. Today, Lakeview is one of Chicago’s most desirable neighborhoods, known for its beautiful architecture, diverse community, and proximity to numerous parks, restaurants, and cultural institutions. The area is home to Wrigley Field, the historic ballpark of the Chicago Cubs, and the Belmont Theater District, which features numerous theaters and performance venues.

Lakeview is well-served by the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), which provides several options for getting around the neighborhood and beyond. The following CTA train lines run through or near Lakeview. Red Line: The Red Line runs along the eastern edge of Lakeview, with stops at Addison, Belmont, and Fullerton. Brown Line: The Brown Line runs along the western edge of Lakeview, with stops at Southport, Paulina, and Addison. Purple and Yellow Lines: The Purple Line runs along the northern edge of Lakeview, with a stop at Howard.
